Charles Painter
Charles Painter is a trial lawyer at Dolden Wallace Folick LLP as well as the National Co-Chair of the firm’s Municipal Defence Practice Group. Since being called to the bar in 2001, he has focused on and practiced almost exclusively in the areas of Municipal Defence, Insurance Defence, Medical Malpractice Defence/Professional Complaints, Appellate Advocacy and Civil Litigation and has appeared frequently at all trial and appeal levels of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, as well as hearings before the Fire Safety Commission for Ontario, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Health Professions Appeal Review Board, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, License Appeals Tribunal, and the Canada Pension Plan Appeals Tribunal.
Charles has edited several chapters of The Law of Municipal Liability in Canada, the leading text-book on Municipal Law, and has published numerous papers, case comments and articles on Municipal Law and highway maintenance. As a member of the 2012 and 2018 government task forces, Charles was a drafter of O.Reg. 239/02 – Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways, and architect of several of the current regulatory defences they provide for all municipalities in Ontario, providing him with unique and unmatched expertise in the area.
Charles is the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the 2018 Elaine G. Robinson Volunteer of the Year award, in recognition of his work on behalf of Ontario municipalities with the Ontario Good Roads Association.
